KIDS OF STRONG FEELING GROUP
 |
On-going therapy group for children aged 7-10 with self and mood regulation issues.
Tuesdays, 4-5 pm.
Glenview Area, Oakland.
Focus on mood regulation, peer relations, and self esteem using expressive arts and the group.
September 2009 - May 2010 |
Children who have large feelings (ie: issues with mood regulation) often
have challenges getting along with peers, leading to negative feelings about
self and others. With a goal of developing tools for emotional regulation,
strategies for managing connections and conflicts with peers and, most
importantly, assembling a positive and self-confident identity, this therapy
group is strength-based, and incorporates the expressive arts.
Working together over a 9 month period provides a structured, consistent and therapeutic environment for the children to try on new behaviors, receive support, specific tools and guidance, and engage with one another. Group psychotherapy is a specific modality in which each individual as well as the group as a whole contributes to everyone's progress.
The Group for Kids of Strong Feeling, the name chosen by the group, was
formed in Spring of 2007 to provide a safe, creative, accepting place for
children struggling with mood and strong temperaments to socialize with peers, work on social skills, and share issues and experiences together as a group.
